Card of the Week: The Star

“It is better to light one small candle than to curse the darkness.”

- Confucius

The Star card symbolizes hope, growth, and optimism. Since it is directly after the Tower card, the Star card is a sign of good faith. It reminds me of the “GO” position on a Monopoly board; before getting there you probably lost money and property but at least when you get to that position you can collect $200 and have the chance to go around the board again. If this card comes out in your reading, it is proof that you have survived and overcome an obstacle or are in the process of doing just that. The bright yellow star represents optimism, and the blue background represents peace. There are also seven stars in the background, which some people interpret as a portal. I find that these stars also represent solitude and self-reflection since the number seven speaks to more singular energy, and what shines on darkness brighter than a star?

This card also represents healing; we see the feminine figure doing the work of pouring water back into the stream and the earth. There is healing being done both on the physical and spiritual planes in your life.

All around, this card speaks to beautiful energy, and you should expect manifestations of money, love, and recognition due to all your efforts and faith.

Upright

Past: The Star card in this position represents the past energy of goodness, wealth, and healing. You could have recently met someone who fulfills you emotionally, mentally, and sexually. Or perhaps you found a job that satisfies all your requirements. You could have also overcome something that at one point felt like a mountain you would never climb.

This positioning of the card can also represent you coming out of solitude where you did some necessary healing and spent some time refilling your own cup. So, now in the present and future, you can fill others’ cups as well.

This is like spending all Sunday doing some necessary self-care: sleeping, taking a bath, and meal prepping so that you feel better prepared to tackle the week.

Present: The Star card in the present position of a spread can represent a current healing process. Right now, you might feel as vulnerable and exposed as the naked feminine figure on the card. Things that you usually look over or sweep under the rug are coming out. This is necessary for your growth because once you know the problem, you can better create an attack plan. This is the equivalent of admitting to yourself that you struggle with addiction. Now that you accept this addiction, you can actually get to work on tackling it. That admittance in itself is healing and creating a path that was not there before.

This is also a sign that your manifestations are already coming in and you are being gifted with your heart’s desires all because you have done the work and kept going even when things looked rough. Again, take this as a sign of good faith. Keep going! You’re doing great!

Future: With the Star card in this position, you might be speeding through life in hopes of getting to where you desire faster. However, at this rate, burnout is coming soon and you are being warned that a period of rest and relaxation is imminent. And in that time, sit back and reflect. Be grateful for all the progress you have already made and reward your mind, body, and soul with some solitude and self-care.

Reversed

*Disclaimer: Reading tarot cards in reverse is totally up to the reader. There are many who choose not to. There is no right way to do it; go with your intuition. For some readers, a reverse means that the energy of that card cannot manifest into reality due to a block. So if you are someone who chooses to not read reversed cards you may skip this part, however if you are that reader, keep reading!

Remember to always be authentic with your spiritual practices.*

Solitude is always important and a key part of life. However, if the Star comes out reversed, ask yourself, are you taking some much-needed me-time, or are you running away from your problems? If you have been feeling lonely, bitter, and uninspired, it’s harder to actually see all the beauty that is present in your life. Now is not the time to run away; you are being guided to face your issues head-on and be patient with your healing process. Healing yourself is a lifelong process so there is no point in trying to run through it. This will only leave you tired and feeling unfaithful towards your journey.

Advice

You are being advised to keep a positive outlook on matters right now. Try your best to see the lessons and healing that can come from whatever you are going through or have been through. This is also a sign from your guides to pause and look around you. Where are you today, that past you would be proud of? Now would also be a good time to open different streams of income and influence. You could be in solitude a little too much and you are being advised to let people in and let them inspire you.

I believe this quote from Heart Talk by Cleo Wade says it best, “Feeling complete only comes with the realization that we are all one,” (Wade 128)
